Company White Paper

Whereas corrosion is almost always present in metals, carbon and fiberglass are more resistant to deterioration. In fact, these are corrosion resistant. Mainly on boats and ships, then, the combination of fiberglass and carbon is used to achieve durable, lightweight solutions.

Resistant to deterioration

Fiberglass and carbon profiles are protected from corrosion by the resin that covers all the material. The effect is as follows:

  • No oxidation
  • No loss of carrying capacity
  • Less maintenance

Corrosion can lead to material weakening, which in turn can lead to the loss of bearing capacity and structural integrity of the material. An effective resin coating protects the fibers and profile from corrosion and maintains their strength over a longer period of time. This creates a barrier that keeps moisture and pollutants away from the fibers and other sensitive components in the profile. This keeps the fibers and structural material well protected. This makes the composites low-maintenance and very durable.

Traditional metal materials, such as steel, often require regular maintenance to prevent or treat corrosion. With fiberglass and carbon profiles, this maintenance interval is generally much longer. Corrosion resistance reduces the need for frequent inspections and repairs, which can be cost-saving in the long run.
