FRAMES

Within the construction sector, the rules regarding insulation values have been considerably tightened with the arrival of the Building Decree 2012. This means that existing materials and materials that can be replaced must be re-examined to meet these conditions.

Glass fibre sill
Belgian bluestone is a highly sought-after material to use as a sill. The problem with this stone, however, is its poor insulating value. Stone conducts temperature very easily, allowing heat and cold to enter the house. On the other hand, a glass fibre profile has a very high insulation value. This is the reason we developed a fibreglass sill in collaboration with a customer. Furthermore, we have found a way to give the fibreglass sill any look you want. Thus, it is also possible to make it look like Belgian bluestone.

Optical fibre advantages
The glass fibre profile is therefore a very good insulator and therefore complies with the guidelines of the Building Decree. In addition, the material hardly works during temperature changes. This keeps a window firmly in place, with no chance of it breaking due to the action of the profile.
We further hollow the fibreglass sill on the inside, which also makes it very lightweight yet powerful.

Replacing wood
The fibreglass sill is also a good substitute for wood. Indeed, the use of wood is also subject to increasingly strict regulations. For example, wood should no longer be placed where it can remain damp. This is because this not only allows cold and possible mould to pass through, but also rot the wood. With fibre optics, you hardly need to worry about these problems. Only when the fibreglass profile is left full in the water and there are no times when it can dry out, is it possible for the water to partially soak into the fibres.

Applying the glass fibre sill
In the production of prefab houses, the fibreglass lower sill is already increasingly used. The sill can then be fitted correctly right away.
Indeed, nails cannot be driven into fibreglass profiles as this will damage the profile’s protective layer.
