Carbon and fibreglass profiles are mainly used in the sports and leisure industry because of their low weight, and in elite sport, every gram counts.
A well-known example is road bikes, whereby the rider achieves better performance the lighter the bike becomes. Other applications are often less well known, such as in the skating world where carbon components are added to skates.
CARBON SEAT POST
LIGHTER ROAD BIKES
The development institute Fraunhofer-ICT requested Prince Fibre to jointly develop a seat post for sports bikes.
The carbon fibre seat post has been given a different profile shape as it has become more of an oval shape with an almost flat side. Two profiles are used for the seat post, which are inserted into the frame with the flat sides facing each other.
Ideas for a new design are currently being finalised. The aim is to increase the rigidity even further, thereby improving static bending.
